Ko te tīma - About your team

Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will be one of two Managers in the Legal and Enforceable Undertakings Team,, supporting the provision of efficient, cost effective, and high quality legal services by our Wellington team across the full range of WorkSafe's operations. The team currently have solicitors who focus on the provision of legal advice to the organisation, as well as solicitors who conduct litigation, but all are dedicated to helping WorkSafe achieve its vision.

This role requires an experienced and dynamic leader with a sound knowledge of health and safety and general public law, and a willingness towards continued development in these areas.. You will be responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to the legal function here at WorkSafe, and be committed to improving New Zealand's overall work health and safety system.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage a team of direct reports, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and alignment with WorkSafe's strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the team to allocate work to staff and ensure consistency of practice
  • Provide high quality legal services to WorkSafe New Zealand and instruct external legal providers
  • Manage expenditure in line with approved guidelines, budgets, and reporting requirements
  • Monitor and report on progress towards achievement of plans and strategies
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to the cultural values of different ethnic groups
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring

  • Extensive senior legal experience
  • Demonstrable leadership experience or capability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Practical, solution-focused approach
  • A Law degree
  • NZ practising certificate
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for WorkSafe's mahi

Awhe utu - Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $161,723 to $213,416.  Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
