The Electoral Commission is looking for a Manager, Information & security to join the Information Technology team. You will be part of a great, supportive, and fun team - protecting our enterprise data & information assets, ensuring they are well managed, secure and resilient against threats. You'll also work as a key member of the IT leadership team to grow and develop our capabilities and create a fulfilling work environment.

This will be a varied and rewarding role, where you will see your efforts directly contributing to providing an effective and impartial electoral system that New Zealanders understand and trust. With your team and our suppliers, you'll lead the way to unlocking the value of the information we are entrusted to protect while facing unique threats and challenges to our democracy.

You know what's important, how to keep it safe but also how to ensure it's used well - leading your team of advisors, engineers and suppliers with effectiveness front of mind. Experienced in NZ Government practices and requirements, you know how to ensure a smooth operation while always on the look-out for improvement. Passionate about our purpose, you are willing to challenge the status quo but know that pragmatism is sometimes needed to meet key deadlines. Knowing that some of your most important work happens at the leadership table, you're confident in the diversity of your skills and experiences that you will contribute.

The salary band is $137,773 - $162,086.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Have extensive experience in managing software development lifecycles
  • With a proven track record of defining a strategic direction for software capabilities
  • Have proven experience in managing application development teams and suppliers
  • Bring significant leadership skills, with the ability to grow and develop our staff to work as a high performing team.
  • Are effective in working under pressure, managing stakeholder relationships and balancing competing priorities.
  • Excel in communication, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to varied audiences
  • Summary of Key responsibilities
  • As the Commission's ITSM you will develop and maintain the Commission's information security policies, capabilities and expertise
  • Ensure the security operations provide 24x7 monitoring and are ready to respond to security threats
  • Safeguard the critical information assets, lifting the maturity of the Commissions information management practices
  • Develop strategies and business plans for the investment in the Commission's information & security resources
  • Work closely with the Commission's senior leaders and project managers as a critical member of delivering election events
