    We currently have a vacancy for a permanent evening shift position, Monday – Friday, 1500-2330. Remuneration dependent on experience as per PSA Allied Health MECA or NZMLWU – Laboratory Workers MECA Core MLS salary scale, ($77,087 - $110,210).

    About the Team/Service/ Location

     We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in the Haematology Laboratory at Middlemore Hospital
    . Middlemore Hospital is a 950 bed Hospital and is one of New Zealand’s busiest and most diverse teaching hospitals with a large Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, National Burns Unit, Regional Plastic Surgery Unit, Special Care Baby Unit, ICU, and paediatrics, general surgical, orthopaedic and medical wards. 

    Our Haematology department is IANZ accredited and provides a 24-hour service for Middlemore and Kidz First Hospitals and the Manukau Health Park. Our department is involved in teaching technical and medical staff and has close links with the Clinical Haematology service.

    We perform a range of diagnostic haematology testing using automated systems for cell counts, cell morphology and coagulation testing and have a special haematology section which assists with the collection and processing of bone marrow samples and performs haemoglobinopathy and thalassaemia screening. Our department is a dynamic, progressive laboratory run by a professional and well-motivated team.

    About you

    Ideally you will have:

    ·
    Registration as an MLS with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and have a current APC

    ·
    At least 3 years’ recent experience working in a Haematology Laboratory

    ·
    A good understanding of ISO15189 – 2022 and a commitment to quality improvement principles

    ·
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    ·
    Confidence with computer LIS systems, preferably with experience using Sysmex Delphic and
    IT3000/Infinity

    ·
    Experience with health and safety protocols

    ·
    A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a busy team environment
