About the Role
The primary functions of this role are to assist in the receipt, documentation, registration, processing and/or reporting of all specimens, including those referred to other laboratories, as required by authorized policies and protocols. You will also perform other technical and operational duties normally expected of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), such as those related to efficient and effective operations of the Pathology service.
We are situated in a brand new purpose-built laboratory, which includes a dedicated molecular microbiology suite.
Based within the Microbiology department you will receive training using and maintaining the following platforms:
- BioMerieux BioFire FilmArray
- Cepheid GeneXpertXVI
- Roche Cobas 5800
- Qiagen EZ2 Connect
- QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System
- Siemens Atellica UAS 800
- BD BacTec FX
- BioMerieux Vitek MS & Vitek2 Compact
About you
- Medical Laboratory Technician with registration with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council
- Basic computer literacy.
- Proven ability to rapidly learn new knowledge and skills.
- A basic understanding of health/illness and prevention of infection.
- Experience working within a pathology laboratory
Whilst not essential, recent experience in a Medical Laboratory working within Microbiology, and/or experience in healthcare is desireable.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
