  • Permanent, full time role working 40-hours per week
  • Work in both Tumanako inpatient and He Manu Pae Sub-Acute units

About the Role

Have you got a passion for Mental Health and Addictions? Are you looking for an exciting and challenging career in the Mental Health Sector? Tumanako Inpatient Unit has the perfect position for you. As a Diversional Worker, you will plan, organise and facilitate the daily ward activity programme for patients as part of our multidisciplinary team.

This is a full-tim rostered position consisting of 12-hour rostered shifts from 7am to 7pm.

About the Service

Tumanako is a 29 bed purpose built unit that cares for adults over the age of 18 who live in the Northland area. We have a multidisciplinary team who work closely together to create a supportive and recovery focussed environment for our Whaiora.  We are also committed to quality improvement, staff wellbeing and working collaboratively across services.

About you

This position would ideally suit a person who is creative; energetic, flexible, well-organised and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Applicants are responsible for planning and delivering a structured activities programme on the unit.  You may have a background in Diversional Therapy, qualifications in sports and recreation or possess other applicable skills and experience in working with small groups. We provide a varied activities programme which includes arts and crafts; music; cultural focused activities; sports and leisure/recreational activities.  Experience in mental health is preferred though not essential 

  • Current full NZ drivers' licence
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
