The Opportunity:

Hon Chris Bishop, Leader of the House, is seeking a House Advisor to join his team. In this high impact role, you will have the opportunity to be at the heart of providing support to the Minister in his role of Leader of the House through the provision of high quality, timely and sound political advice. It is unique and rewarding work, in a high impact and genuinely fast-paced environment.

What can I expect?

As the House Advisor, you will join a tight knit and trusted team responsible for supporting the Minister across his portfolios and responsibility of Leader of the House.

A natural relationship builder, you will develop and maintain strong working relationships with caucus, coalition and support parties in order to facilitate progress of all House activity.

You will have the opportunity to shape the Government's legislative agenda, working with the Leader of the House to schedule and organise the Government's business in the House.

There will be an opportunity to work closely with the advisors in Minister Bishops office providing support across his portfolios in an advisory role.

This is an events-based position based on the parliamentary term. The salary band for this role is $99,025 - $123,231

What skills or experience would I need to be successful?

  • You will have a deep understanding and knowledge of Parliament and the operation of the house procedures and processes.
  • You'll be accustomed to the pressures that come with a high workload and the need to prioritise and manage your time effectively, and your written and verbal communication skills, paired with your attention to detail, are second to none.
  • Relationships are important in this environment and your advanced communication and interpersonal skills will set you apart, building the confidence of the Minister, your wider team, coalition partners, and key stakeholders across Parliament.
