About the Role

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Therapy Team in our Thames Hospital. This vacancy will be based in the Community and the START (Supported Transfer and Accelerated Rehabilitation Team) in the Thames/Coromandel Area.

 In this role you will provide occupational therapy services to clients within their home environment. You will have the chance to use a wide range of OT skills, working closely with people in their homes to provide up to of 12 weeks intensive rehab to enable people to achieve goals for participation and independence. You will be collaborating with clients and the multidisciplinary team providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and interventions.

You will also be playing a key part in using the theory of occupation to improve, maintain and restore the health

and well-being of our clients to participate in meaningful activities of everyday life and working to service plans, policies, procedures, guidelines to meet client, specialty, service need and contractual arrangements.

About the Team

As a member of the Occupational Therapy team, you will be part of our wider Allied Health team which refers to a group of qualified health professionals other than doctors and nurses who work directly with clients and closely with other health specialists. Te Manawa Taki employs a large number of dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers and therapy assistants located throughout the District who service patients both in hospital and community settings.

Thames Hospital is a modern 50-bed secondary care facility offering a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, an infusion unit, rehabilitation services, birthing unit and low-acuity mental health care. Our hospital boasts 24-hour laboratory and radiology services, including advanced CT imaging. As an accredited training hub, we support 5th and 6th-year medical students from Auckland University, PGY2 House Officers, and registrars in Rural Hospital Medicine and General and Acute Care Medicine. We offer a robust quality improvement program, CME opportunities, and an RMO teaching program. Telehealth is expanding at Thames, supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency services like stroke thrombolysis.

About you

For this opportunity, we will be looking at someone who has:

  • At least 12 months post qualification experience and ideally experience with the Ministry of Health funding process, however, we are open to consider newly graduated Occupational Therapists
  • Rehabilitation experience, preferred
  • Sound clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence-informed practice in Occupational Therapy
  • Effective and efficient time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • The ability to work well with other individuals, communities and with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
  • A full New Zealand driver license
