Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As the lead regulator for land transport our purpose is to ensure that the system is safe, efficient, effective and operates in the public interest. Safety is a top priority for Waka Kotahi and Te Rōpū Waeture - the Regulatory Services groups aim is to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by being a firm and fair real-world regulator.
The Operations Analyst role is part of the Safety Camera System, which is responsible for operating a network of safety cameras that encourages road users to abide by road rules (such as speed limits) and contribute towards a reduction in deaths and serious injuries on New Zealand roads.
We are looking for someone with both analytical experience and with a passion for road safety, where your data analysis will enable safety cameras to effectively deliver road safety and regulatory outcomes. Key to your success will be your analysis of proposed safety camera deployments and stakeholder requests to determine the effectiveness of a safety camera in reducing non-compliance and road trauma - both at specific locations and across the New Zealand roading network. In addition, you will leverage your data interpretation skillset to provide camera deployment reporting and insights about the effectiveness of camera deployment in delivering the safety camera system's strategic objectives.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience working in reporting and analytical roles
- Experience in information reporting, especially performance related reporting, providing analysis and commentary to support wider decision making
- An ability to work to high standards including accuracy, attention to detail and meeting deadlines
- Skilled at report writing and interpreting data
- Continuous improvement ethos, experience looking for and implementing process improvement
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to relate well, create rapport and build credibility with all kinds of people, at all levels
- Proficiency in using Excel, Power BI and comfortable learning new software package
- Knowledge and experience with GIS mapping platforms would be desirable
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience is desirable.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
