This is an exciting opportunity to apply for the position of Orthopaedic Registrar for next year commencing in February and/or August 2025. The Orthopaedic Department offer supportive working conditions and are committed to excellent teaching.
About us:
Hawke’s Bay Hospital is a 364 bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. We have most major medical and surgical subspecialties on site (except cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics and O&G. We are well supported by a strong regional ICU team. We have strengthening Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.
About our team:
Working within a team of 9 registrars, having the full support of 9 Orthopaedic Surgeons and work closely with 4 House Officers. The Registrars are responsible for the day to day management of inpatients under the care of the designated Consultant. They are also responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to hospital acutely with orthopaedic problems. These may be patients referred for admission on acute days or be patients who have previously been cared for by the team and whom the team has accepted for re-admission.
There is a tremendous opportunity to enhance both trauma and elective surgical exposure and experience as we have a new state of the art orthopaedic theatre with daily consultant led trauma lists. While enjoying a wide variety of inpatient cases, you will also be expected to attend outpatient clinics, theatre and clinical meetings including Grand Round, X-Ray and Orthopaedic meetings. We are accredited for the RACS Surgical Education and Training (SET) programme.
About you:
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Suitable for Resident Medical Officers PGY3 or above.
- Have completed a placement within Orthopaedic surgery.
- Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
