  • Child Health Centre, Whangarei Hospital
  • Permanent, part time position working 24 hours per week (0.6FTE)
  • Provide an effective and efficient Paediatric Speech Language Therapy service to children in Northland. This will include children with disabilities and developmental problems within Speech Language Therapy service criteria.

About the Role

The Paediatric Speech Language Therapist works with children, their families/whanau and the Child Health Service team to provide a Speech Language Therapy service with appropriate assessment and techniques used and ensures NZ Speech Language Therapists National Standards of Practice are met. All clients/families are treated in a culturally appropriate manner.

You will assist children with Speech and Language and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.

This is a permanent, part time position (0.6 FTE) based in Whangarei and working Monday – Friday who would suit a SLT who has the ability to be flexible, versatile and open to change and can work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

About you

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Speech Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Current Registration with NZSTA
  • Previous experience working in the field of Speech Language Therapy
  • Excellent English language communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Whilst not essential; the following education and/or skills are desirable for this position:

  • A course in Dysphagia (as part of training or as post graduate course)
  • Makaton training
  • Experience in signing
