About the Role
As a Patient Support & Security Worker, you will assist our teams to ensure that we continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit at Nelson Hospital. You will focus on working with staff to best meet the needs of patients and their whānau accessing our services.
The hours of work are 11.00 PM to 07.00 AM 3 on 3 off rolling roster (0.7 FTE). However from time to time, you may be required to work an alternative shift to help meet service needs.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our team is made up of 12 staff across Nelson Marlborough.This position has a focus on ensuring that people who attend ED and Mental Health services are supported within a welcoming environment that supports safety, recovery and wellbeing.

About you
As a Patient Support & Security Worker, you will :
- be the type of person who works in a rational and calm manner,
- be someone who has the skills and experience to effectively de-escalate difficult situations,
- promote a safe and therapeutic environment,
- be able to relate well to patients and their visitors,
- be able to work with the clinical team and follow directions.
Additionally, you will:
- have empathy and a non-judgemental attitude towards patients and members of the public,
- have the ability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds,
- have the ability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare,
- already have a good level of physical fitness and mobility.
Previous experience in security, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essential as training will be provided.
