About the Role
The Payroll/HRIS Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the payroll and HRIS processes for the Southern District; ensuring all remuneration and benefits are provided in a timely and accurate manner and in compliance with all organisational, legislative and employment contract requirements, policies and guidelines. This role is also responsible to lead and develop a team of payroll specialists who deliver exceptional customer service, high quality payroll with a continuous improvement mindset.
About the Team/Service/ Location
This permanent, full-time Payroll & HRIS Manager role is based in Dunedin and reports directly to the National Payroll Manager. Leading a team of 14 dedicated payroll and reporting professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll operations while driving continuous improvement in HRIS processes. You'll be managing a hardworking and high-performing team that takes pride in delivering exceptional payroll services across the organisation. This is an opportunity to lead, mentor, and support a team in a collaborative and fast-paced environment while contributing to the ongoing success of the organisation.

You are an experienced Payroll & HRIS professional with a strong leadership background, ready to inspire and mentor a team of dedicated payroll specialists. With a proven ability to drive performance and foster a collaborative team culture, you excel at balancing the day-to-day operational demands with long-term strategic improvements. Your keen attention to detail ensures payroll processes run smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with legislation, while your ability to lead with confidence and integrity makes you a trusted leader.
Beyond operational excellence, you bring a strategic mindset, always looking for ways to enhance payroll systems, streamline reporting, and drive efficiencies. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, where your problem-solving skills and analytical thinking allow you to navigate complex payroll challenges with ease. Your strong communication and stakeholder management abilities enable you to engage effectively across all levels of the business, ensuring payroll operations align with broader organsiational goals.
- A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification.
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.
- Bachelor Degree in Business Related field e.g Accounting, HR or equivalent level of experience and knowledge (5-10 years of payroll management and processing experience).
