About the Role

You will be responsible for providing a high quality pharmacy service to our customers. Being part of a smaller hospital offers great exposure to all parts of the hospital. During your intern year, you will enjoy rotations in the dispensary, surgical ward, medical ward, combination/rehab ward and spend some time in ICU/CCU and paediatrics. You will also get to spend a short time in our dialysis unit and also do a chemotherapy and haematology rotation. It is essential that candidates have a relevant qualification (BPharm or equivalent). 

Position Description: Pharmacy Intern

About the Team/Service/ Location

We are seeking a self-motivated, cheerful and enthusiastic Pharmacy Intern to commence in January 2026 in sunny Gisborne. Gisborne Hospital is the base hospital for the wide geographical area, Tairāwhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand. The region has a population of approximately 48,000 and is well known for its beautiful rural and beach environments.

About you

Ensure you also complete your Te Whatu Ora Hospital Pharmacy Internship preferencing as part of the application process – this will be distributed to your university email addresses in early April.

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification
  • Accuracy with figures/numeracy skills
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work across sectorial boundaries, with hospital and community settings
