Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced NZ Registered Physiotherapist as our Practice Supervisor for our Physiotherapy Medical team. This role is based at Auckland City Hospital and is a permanent, full-time role. Our Physiotherapy Medical team covers Respiratory, Cardiothoracic’s, Cardiology, General Medical, Emergency Department, Oncology and Haematology.

This key role reports directly to the Physiotherapy Clinical Lead and is an ideal opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist wanting to develop their leadership capabilities.

Key aspects of the Practice supervisor role:

  • Clinical leadership of a team of Physiotherapist’s.
  • Implementing evidence-based practice and service development
  • Motivating, guiding and developing staff
  • Collaboration with wider Physiotherapy, Allied Health and wider hospital teams in a leadership capacity.

In this role you will carry a clinical caseload while providing day to day coordination and leadership for a team of approximately 12 physiotherapists. You will play an active role in staff and service development.

The Allied Health Practice Supervisor is a discipline specific allied health professional who provides a senior level of allied health care and expertise in both direct care delivery and support to other staff. The Practice Supervisor demonstrates proven leadership and clinical competence within the scope of practice recognised by their regulating authority and/or professional body. The role is a clinical leadership role and they work collaboratively with the Professional Leader for that discipline. Practice Supervisors provide clinical expertise and support and, coordinate day-to-day activities and workload for their profession within their designated clinical area. They have oversight of all discipline specific care within their clinical area. Practice Supervisors provide comprehensive assessment and outcome focussed innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education within the area of specialty. The Practice Supervisor is an experienced practitioner with responsibility for leading and contributing to quality and service improvements and development of team members and students as well as themselves. They contribute to the profession through the local application of contemporary, evidence-based practice and policy that contribute to developing, implementing and enhancing a high-quality service in the area.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

As the ideal person for this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Significant experience working in the hospital setting with a minimum of 7 years clinical experience
  • Clinical expertise in older persons health
  • Experience working in a complex environment and within multi-disciplinary or inter-disciplinary teams
  • Leadership and management training with proven supervision, mentoring, coaching and leadership skills
  • Experience providing adult teaching and knowledge of appropriate educating skills
  • Organisational, time management and clinical priority-setting skills
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and processes

The remuneration for this position is covered by a collective agreement (PSA Allied, Public Health and Technical MECA 2018-2020)

Salary Range: DA1: $117,420.00 to DC3: $127,720.00 (depending on experience)
