About the role - Te kaupapa
We are seeking an industry professional to share their knowledge and skills as a tutor in Plumbing, Drainlaying, and Gasfitting. This role involves teaching, facilitating learning, and assessing students, ensuring they gain both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for their trade. With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, you will guide students through course content and real-world applications.
We welcome applications from experienced industry professionals looking to transition into teaching. While prior teaching experience or qualifications are not required, you should have a strong understanding of your trade, along with patience, adaptability, a positive attitude, good communication skills, and a reasonable level of physical fitness.
If you don't already hold a teaching qualification, we will support you in obtaining a Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching or a similar qualification through on-the-job training and development.
What you'll need:
- Industry experience in Plumbing, Drainlaying, or Gasfitting
- A relevant qualification, such as a New Zealand Certificate or National Certificate
- Be a Licensed Practitioner or hold a certifying qualification
- Applicants with multiple licence classes will have an advantage, though we also welcome applications from Drainlayers and Gasfitters, as there is scope to specialize

The role is based at WelTec's main campus in Petone. Applicants will be required to undertake a police vetting check in order to work with young people and should hold a current driver's licence.
