Te Haeata/The Opportunity 

We're looking for two experienced advisors to join our Policy Group. You will have complex and challenging issues to resolve, and opportunities to sharpen your critical thinking and relationship management skills.

 

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga / About the role

Our work in the Policy Group is wide ranging, with opportunities to shape thinking and drive legislative change across the justice sector and all of government. We work at the interface of the executive, parliamentary and judicial branches of government. Our work is interesting and challenging, with a chance to apply your critical thinking and relationship management skills.

Successful candidates will be appointed to the Policy Group and these roles will be placed in the Family Law team, in the Courts and Justice Services Policy Unit.

 

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

Policy advisors (Level 2) in the Policy Group have some experience of the policy process or equivalent experience, and work with others to resolve complex and challenging issues. 

The successful candidates will demonstrate: 

  • Relationship skills – Do you have strong skills in engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders, learning from their perspectives as well as influencing them?
  • Problem solving skills – Can you think analytically and critically? Do you find complex problems interesting, and have a knack for solving them? 
  • Communication skills – Are you an excellent communicator? Can you write clearly, in a way that simplifies complex information? Do you ask questions to improve your understanding?  
  • Advisory skills – Do you have knowledge of machinery of Government and public policy?
  • Work management skills – Are you able to plan, prioritise, and organise work to deliver on short and long-term projects?

  • provide opportunities to work with others on a broad range of intellectually challenging policy problems.

The successful candidates will have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.

Applicants should have at least one year of full-time, relevant professional experience (or a longer period of relevant part-time professional experience).

Experience with the legislative process or a legal background would be an advantage but is not essential. Treaty of Waitangi/te Tiriti o Waitangi analysis skills are highly desirable.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $83,562 to $116,273, based on skills and experience.
