Te noho nei ki te ururuatanga o Waikato-Waiariki, mātua whakapāngia ai te Pou Whakahaere e te makiu, ā, ko tāna hoki he whakakanohi i ngā tari o Waikato-Waiariki, i te Tumu Whakarae, i te Minita hoki ki te hapori whānui. He tari ō mātou i Rotorua, Kirikiriroa, Tauranga me Whakatāne, ā, ka nekeneke te Pou Whakahaere ki tēnā, ki tēnā, waihoki ki te hapori.

Based in our Waikato-Waiariki region, the Pou Whakahaere is the first point of contact for many in our community and represents the Waikato-Waiariki offices, our Chief Executive and Minister to the wider community. Our offices are located in Rotorua, Hamilton, Tauranga and Whakatāne and the Pou Whakahaere moves between these offices, and into the community as is required.

Nikā ōna haepapa

  • Ko te tū hei kaihautū i te āheitanga ahurea. Ko te toko i ā ngā kaihautū tuākana whai i te tikanga. Ko te whakapau kaha hoki ki te hāpai i te raukaha me te māramatanga i roto anō i Waikato-Waiariki.
  • Ko ia te kaitakawaenga e tūhono ai te rohe ki te Tari Matua o Te Puni Kōkiri, me te hapori. The Pou Whakahaere is adaptable and agile, working between our regional offices and can be found talking with senior representatives from more than 43 iwi - the iwi that are represented in our region. As a competent, fluent speaker of reo Māori, and as someone who carries the mana and respect required of this important position the Pou Whakahaere plays an important role within the Rohe. 

They are responsible for

  • Acting as the cultural competency lead. Providing tikanga support to our senior leaders and working to uplift the capability and understanding within the Waikato Waiariki area
  • Are the relationship connector between the region, Te Puni Kōkiri national office, and community Whanaungatanga, relationships are at the heart of this position and the role ensures that relationships are established at a "flax roots" level. This includes connecting Māori with central government agencies
  • Contributing to regional work programmes including leading and providing policy advice across a range of project related issues significant to Māori and Government
  • Acting as an effective conduit for information both into and out of Māori communities to support Māori initiatives and help us develop policy.

The appointment range for this role is between $86,545 and $96,161 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience.

We are looking for a Pou Whakahaere who is dedicated to the region, is passionate about Māori wellbeing and development, is a strong relationship builder and, above all else is competent in their knowledge, skillset, and with what they do.

  • A public profile as a tohunga in te reo and tikanga. Competent te reo Māori speaker
  • Ability to work across multiple iwi and adapt your kōrero accordingly. Adaptable and agile
  • Experienced in establishing relationships with Māori groups and key local bodies
  • Can show examples of mentoring and coaching others, uplifting office capability in te reo and tikanga
  • A clean full motor vehicle driver's licence.
