Ngā kawenga | About the role

The Pae Ora Team is responsible for Ara Poutama Aotearoa's overall focus on oranga, inclusive of general health, mental health, addictions, and disability. Our priority is to provide services that support the advancement of health equity for Māori. We do this through our strategies, policies, and practices. Within prisons we have a multi-disciplinary approach to service provision to ensure we target and meet the needs of the people in our care.

As a Principal Adviser Health joining the Health Quality and Practice Team, you will provide professional clinical advice and subject matter expertise to support the National Manager Nursing, National Manager Medical and our Chief Nurse/Director Physical Health in designing and delivering an integrated, culturally informed, health service across our organisation.

Specifically, you'll be a lead advisor in the development of contemporary, evidence-based, and collaborative health services which are supported by Kaupapa Māori frameworks, policies and processes unique to the environment within which they'll be delivered.  Naturally curious, you keep abreast of best practice both within NZ and internationally and will support a focus on fit for purpose service design through continuous review and the implementation of a quality assurance program and tools.

  • Highly effective stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing skills – developed across the wider health care sector.
  • Strategic thinker with advanced communication skills and proven ability to communicate complex concepts to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong cultural competence and a commitment to our practice values of Rangatira, Wairua, Whānau, Kaitiaki and Manaaki.
