We are seeking an experienced geospatial leader for our Connected Property, Addressing, and Feature Data Squads in this Principal role. You will provide oversight and work leadership to the teams, ensuring that both short-term and long-term plans are realistic, achievable, consistently maintained, and effectively delivered. You should be comfortable working with Agile techniques, collaborating across Value Streams, and with other Work Leads to successfully deliver these plans. 

As the work lead responsible for the squads delivering our Addressing, Connected Property, and Building Outlines data, you will focus on developing these key data areas to meet New Zealand's future needs while maintaining their quality.  

In the day to day running of the squad you will use your breadth of work leadership experience to manage resource and budget constraints, handle competing priorities, and enabling the squad to participate in related initiatives while still delivering on core business.  

This role is focused on management and allocation of work, while the squads report to the Home Lead. You will work alongside the Home Lead and Data Value Stream Lead to identify opportunities to develop and build capability within the squad.  

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the delivery and support the development of our Connected Property, Addressing, and Feature Data work. 
  • Determine and manage the work program collaboratively, driving results through effective delegation. 
  • Ensure the quality and accessibility of all squad data. 
  • Maintain Quality Assurance of datasets to agreed standards, including compliance with Local Government and Electoral acts. 
  • Enhance data collection, maintenance, and management processes. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Local and Central government data suppliers and users. 
  • Lead and oversee the squad's efforts to incorporate internal and external customer needs into future enhancements. 

He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years of principal or work leadership experience in the geospatial field, including data collection, processing, and management. 
  • Proven experience in leading and developing high-performing teams focused on data collection, quality assurance, data manipulation, and management. 
  • Strong track record in work planning and delivery management. 
  • Experience at managing day to day workloads of squads with a range of subject matter expertise. 
  • Extensive experience working within the constraints of official standards and legislation. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to individuals at all levels. 
  • Proven ability to manage and build relationships with key stakeholders and customers. 
  • Experience in Agile management is an advantage. 
  • A tertiary level qualification in a related geospatial discipline would be highly advantageous.

The expected appointing range for this position is between $130,000 and $145,000, dependent on experience.
