The Principal Protective Security Advisor reporting to the Ministry’s Chief Security Officer will be responsible for the implementation of the Government’s Protective Security Requirements across the Ministry in line with the Ministry’s security risk profile.  


In this role you will:
 

  • Lead the delivery of the Ministry’s Protective Security Programme of work.
  • Review and update existing frameworks, policies, practices and tools in line with best practice, organisational requirements and any changes in the Protective Security requirements across government.
  • Lead the engagement with managers and staff across the Ministry to identify and monitor security risks at both the Ministry-wide level and local level to ensure effective controls are in place to minimise such risks, while working within the Ministry’s risk management framework.
  • Provide expert advice and support to staff and managers across the Ministry including training, incident management, engagement and reporting to build the Ministry’s protective security maturity.
  • Lead the resolution of issues, identifying risks and solutions to protect and enhance the integrity and reputation of the Ministry.


Salary range: $118,371 - $143,760 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
 

To be successful in this role, you must have:
 

  • Experience in all key areas of the Government’s Protective Security Requirements framework and its implementation and sound understanding of the protective security framework as it applies across government.
  • Provision of expert advice on the range of protective security matters in order to effectively support managers and staff across the Ministry including response management of incidents as they arise, investigation of incidents, reporting and resolution of issues as well as associated training related to the range of security matters that occur in a large and complex organisation operating across the country.
  • A track record of bringing people together and leading, coaching and mentoring others to achieve outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral.
  • A proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities, to influence and guide organisational and system-level decision making.

You will also offer:
 

  • The willingness to travel throughout NZ on an as required basis to undertake physical security risk assessments at offices, facilitate security related training with managers and staff and respond to security incidents, if required; and
  • The availability to be on call to respond to after-hours security matters and hold an assigned cell phone on a team roster basis; and
  • The ability to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
