Our client, a proudly Kiwi-owned company with decades of experience in the steel industry, is looking for a Project Engineer with strong welding, engine and mechanical skills to join their dynamic team. With over 100 people nationwide, they’re all about growth, development, and keeping things moving.
The Role:
No two days will be the same! You’ll travel to different sites across the country, planning and leading the dismantling and processing of steel plants, equipment, and machinery. When you're not on-site, you'll be back in the workshop, working on maintenance and repairs.

The Role:
No two days will be the same! You’ll travel to different sites across the country, planning and leading the dismantling and processing of steel plants, equipment, and machinery. When you're not on-site, you'll be back in the workshop, working on maintenance and repairs.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Planning projects upfront—organizing people, equipment, and paperwork.
- Leading and supervising crews on-site.
- Getting hands-on—welding, grinding, and providing technical expertise and direction.
- Ensuring top-notch safety standards—running toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and site inspections.
- Workshop maintenance—keeping machinery, equipment, and tools in top shape.
- 5+ years in mechanical/ engine maintenance experience
- A qualification as a diesel mechanic / welding / mechanical engineering is ideal
- Strong experience in welding, grinding, and steel fabrication.
- Hydraulics and forklift maintenance experience (preferred).
- A clean driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Computer skills—you’ll need to be comfortable with technology.
- Leadership ability and a strong team-player attitude.
- NZ residency or citizenship.
