At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect, analyse and assess intelligence to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.
The role
Our Protective Security Unit (PSU) is growing its capacity and capability. We have exciting opportunities for Protective Security Officers to join our team in Auckland, Wellington and Blenheim. Our Protective Security Officers are the core element of this team, providing a 24/7, 365 day protective security service to the New Zealand Intelligence Community which protects our information, personnel and assets. With the right training or experience, this is a role where you can succeed.
In this role you will:
- Respond to security incidents.
- Deter, detect and delay unauthorised intruders.
- Provide reassurance to the workforce, responding and supporting during emergency situations, at all times delivering a professional service.
- Have the opportunity to work at other sites.
You will be required to work rostered shifts to maintain our security service - which entitles you to generous shift work allowances. This also provides a good work life balance.
Salary for this role is $61,647 (+ benefits)

Who we're looking for
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with integrity, resilience and sound judgement.
Prior experience in a frontline or customer service role is a bonus, as well as knowledge and experience with various computer systems. You will also need a current full NZ driver's licence.

Important dates:

If shortlisted and progressed through the recruitment process, you will be invited to attend a one day assessment centre. You will need to be available for one day in week 2 or 3 February 2025. We will confirm a specific date closer to the time.
Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
