About the Role

We have two opportunities available to join the School Based Programme Immunisation team as part of the wider Central Regional team as a Public Health Nurse. There will be some flexibility around FTE (part-time or full-time).

In these roles, you will deliver public health nursing services across the community. Public health nursing includes assessment of population health, attention to the multiple determinants of health, an emphasis on primary prevention, and continued commitment to best evidence based public health nursing practice.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored. 

About you

You understand all components of vaccine safety and cold chain management. You're able to work collaboratively to deliver immunisation programmes in schools/community in a safe, efficient and professional manner. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach, you learn quickly, adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

Skills and Experience

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • For this role you must already be an authorised vaccinator
  • Hold a minimum of a competent portfolio in an approved PDRP or equivalent with a commitment to continue through the programme
  • Able to ensure documentation on Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) is accurate, reflects the nursing assessment and maintains confidentiality
  • Child and Adolescent health related experience and family planning experience
  • Proven experience and competence using Patient Management Systems
  • An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Full, clean New Zealand drivers licence
