Job Description

Extrastaff are one of New Zealand's longest standing labour hire providers, originally founded in 1965. Since then, we've placed over 120,000 candidates with clients across the country, spanning commercial and civil construction, manufacturing, engineering, and more.

We operate across both the blue- and white-collar markets, providing both temporary labour solutions as well as long-term fixtures for our talent and clients. With a small team of focused, driven and like-minded recruiters and support staff, you will be joining a highly capable team that will do everything they can to ensure you succeed.

We're after an enthusiastic, driven individual with a bit of gumption and grit, able to build relationships and drive results, with a sense of humour and urgency about them.

We are extremely interested in those coming from a Trade background, and even more interested in someone stepping off heavy machinery as an Operator or ground worker - so if you know your way around a 30T Komatsu excavator, how to drive a shovel, or lay asphalt, pick up the phone and give me a call.

What's in it for you?

  • Decent starting salary offer with a lucrative commission structure
  • Phone + laptop + use of company vehicle (car + fuel card in the conversation after proven ability - so a Ford Ranger with full use could be in your future..)
  • Full-time, permanent position - not a short-term contract
  • Work for a leading labour hire provider in Christchurch & New Zealand
  • End-to-end training provided, with on-going support and mentorship
  • Down-to-earth, professional management who understand the trials of the job
  • Great team with a sense of humour

What you'll be doing:

  • Cultivating new business opportunities on a new desk (Civil Construction or Engineering), with the support of the Sales Manager in Christchurch
  • Offering a consultative approach to a businesses' recruitment needs, with the client's interests always at the forefront of your mind
  • Building meaningful, long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders
  • Conducting site visits, meeting the right people, and ensuring the safety of our guys (with the help of our dedicated OH&S Officer)
  • Ensuring clear and concise communication both internally and externally - you MUST be able to write a cracking email, with great spelling and grammar
  • Delivering regular reports and insightful recommendations to the Sales Manager
  • Screening candidates on the phone and in person
  • Organising interviews, medicals, and PPE for your guys on site and new starters
  • Meeting KPIs and deadlines

A bit about you:

  • We would prefer someone from a Trade background (Civil), but would also look at keen sales people with a bit of experience (B2B ideally)
  • Understanding how recruitment works would be advantageous, but we can teach you in the ins and outs if you don't have this background
  • Well presented and able to "talk-the-talk"
  • Able to negotiate (with help from your Manager) and secure the sale, with a collaborative and understanding approach
  • Able to identify new opportunities, make a plan, and capture them
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal
  • Able to well as part of a team
  • Previous experience using Excel, Word, Outlook and/or Google Suite
  • Full NZ working rights (Residency/Citizenship)
  • Able to work 40 hours per week in the office (on Colombo Street, in town)
  • Driver's Licence (restricted minimum)
  • Willing to travel for work when required

As an equal opportunity employer, those from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Please note, only those candidates who are shortlisted for the role will be contacted given the number of applications we receive.

Our process is simple: we'll give you a call first, and if you're the right sort of person we'll get you in for a chat with the team, and from there we'll access your written ability (can you send a good email?). The general turnaround would be 1-2 weeks from that first call, with an immediate start on offer (notice is also fine).

If this sounds like you, please send your resume to jake.mcfadyen@extrastaff.co.nz or apply to this advert with your updated CV.
