About the Role

We have an opportunity for a motivated Registered Midwife Specialist to join our team at the Bay of Islands Maternity Unit in Kawakawa. This role is primarily to provide full scope of midwifery care to patients across the service. You will work closely with the community and hospital Midwives of the Bay of Islands. You will have the opportunity to support women and whānau throughout their pregnancy journey, helping them to achieve their own birth and health goals.

About the Team

The Bay of Islands Primary Maternity Unit serves whānau across the Mid North. We have 2 birth rooms and 5 postnatal rooms. Our closest secondary unit is approximately 55 minutes away in Whangarei. We are a close knit team who work collaboratively with our LMC colleagues to provide primary midwifery services to whānau.

About you

Working with a passionate, multi-disciplinary team who place great value on putting people first, you will have the standard of clinical practice and expertise necessary to effectively provide for hapū māmā and whānau needs within the service here in Te Tai Tokerau.

 Key requirements:

  • Registered Midwife with a current practicing certificate with Midwifery Council of New Zealand
  • Relevant knowledge and clinical experience in a midwifery/maternity setting
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to practice in a culturally safe manner
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
