Location:   Wellington hospital and Hutt Valley hospital

Contract:   Permanent, Part-Time (0.8 FTE)

Salary:      As per MECA Registered Midwife - pro rata

About the role

The new graduate midwifery programmes at Capital and Coast, and Hutt Valley are tailored to provide a professionally and clinically comprehensive experience. You will work 8-hour shifts on a rostered and rotating basis, with a workload equivalent to 0.8 full-time employment over 54 weeks in your programme based either at Capital and Coast or Hutt Valley. This arrangement allows you to strike a balance between your clinical responsibilities, commitments to the Midwifery First Year of Practice (MFYP), and personal life. Once the programme is completed you will transfer onto the permanent midwife roster.

About the Team/Service/ Location 

We have supportive teams who nurture our new graduates and each other. Our senior teams include the Director of Midwifery, Associate Directors of Midwifery and Midwife Managers. Our obstetric teams are respectful and collaborative. We all work alongside our LMC colleagues and endeavour to provide the best care for whānau.

About you

We are looking for new graduate midwives who want to consolidate their knowledge and skills in our busy maternity units.

The ideal candidate can demonstrate the following:

  • A current practising certificate with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand
  • Evidence of effective, competent midwifery practice or, for recent midwifery graduates, evidence of enrolment in the Midwifery First Year of Practice Programme
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy environment with competing demands
  • Ready to embrace new challenges, apply their skills and knowledge into the clinical setting,
  • Have a solid work ethic, and are respectful to whānau and colleagues.
