About the Role
Bay of Plenty – Hauora a Toi have a permanent part-time opportunity working 0.8FTE (32 hours per week) for a Registered Nurse – Clinical Coach to join the Acute Care Unit based at Whakatāne hospital. This role offers the unique chance to combine hands-on clinical excellence with professional development and coaching, supporting nurses across the continuum of care from ICU/HDU/CCU to high-acuity admissions.
Working Monday to Sunday, you will coach, mentor, and support staff across shifts – ensuring clinical standards are upheld and continuous learning is embedded in practice. You will play a key part in fostering a sustainable and skilled workforce, supporting both new graduates and experience staff within a team committed to equity and excellence.
The Acute Care Unit (Te Whakamarumaru O Uenuku) is a 11-bed department, with the capacity to surge to 15 beds, and includes a 6-bed Level One ICU/HDU/CCU with an addition of a 5-bed high acuity area. We care for both adult and paediatric patients across the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

About you
An experienced ICU/HDU/CCU nurse with a natural ability to uplift and guide others will thrive in this role. You bring curiosity, leadership, and a deep commitment to building clinical capability.
What you will bring:
- Current NZNR and Annual Practicing Certificate.
- Recent experience in Intensive Care, High Dependency, or Coronary Care nursing.
- Proven ability to support, mentor, and coach clinical staff in a high-acuity setting.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
