About the Role
We are looking for skilled registered nurses who are highly experienced in orthopaedic operating theatres to join our Theatre Nursing team at Waikato Hospital. We have a number of fixed-term opportunities to cover parental leave.
As a major trauma centre, Waikato Hospital orthopaedic service provides care to both emergency and planned care patients. You will have the chance to work in interesting and challenging orthopaedic cases. Our fast-paced environment is perfect for those looking to make a real impact while developing their skills further. Previous experience orthopaedic operating theatres is essential.
The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the NZNO MECA. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), shift allowances, professional development and wellness support.

About the Team/Service
The Theatre and Anaesthesia department at Waikato Hospital is comprised of 22 Operating Theatres, a Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit and Day of Surgery Admission Unit. A wide range of surgical specialties include General Surgery, Vascular, Cardiac, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Paediatrics, Delivery Suite, Gynaecology, Maxillofacial and more.
About you
Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
- 3-5 years’ previous nursing experience in orthopaedic operating theatres in a large tertiary level hospital
- Sound understanding of orthopaedic instruments, equipment, and surgical protocols
- Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and sterile techniques in an operating room environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with surgeons, anaesthetists, patients, and theatre staff
- Strong patient focus
- Enthusiasm and commitment in a changing environment
- Current APC & eligibility to work in New Zealand
