Funding to Attract Midwives back to the Workforce
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are providing funding to support
former midwives returning to midwifery practice.
There are around 600 midwives in Aotearoa who are no longer
practising. The increased funding is intended to help those who want to return
to midwifery, without the financial burden that can come with a Return to
Practice programme.
There is recognition for the critical role midwives have in caring
for the health needs of our whānau and communities. This funding is one step
towards growing and strengthening the midwifery workforce.
Health New Zealand is especially keen to see rural, Māori and
Pacific midwives return to the workforce, as these are areas of particular need.
About the Fund
There are two parts to the fund: Return to Practice (RTP) and Return to
New Zealand Practice. The level of
funding and recertification requirements will vary depending on the length of
time away from practice. Please refer to the Midwifery - Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora website for full details.
To be eligible for the fund, you must hold New Zealand citizenship or New Zealand Residency.
