About the Role

You will provide clinical services that include emergency, in-patient and out-patient assessment and management of people requiring hospital medical care. The role will provide leadership, advice and support to the Group Leadership team, relevant staff within Primary Healthcare Organisations and other organisations within the sector, with a focus on addressing disparities in health care provision.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Wairoa Health is a rural hospital and health centre that provides 24/7 emergency care (categorised Level 2). It has nine overnight medial beds, two Emergency care beds and provides primary maternity and primary birthing care, some outpatient services, and same-day surgical services (this includes dental) are currently delivered by a visiting surgical bus.

 

Queen Street Practice is the local primary care provider and is collated at Wairoa Health. This General Practice provides primary care services and provides medical staff for the inpatient ward and Emergecny Department.

 

Wairoa is surrounded by picturesque farmland and the sea nearby. Lake Waikaremoana is 50km away from Wairoa with walking tracks, fishing; and Mahia Beach hosts good surfing, diving and fishing. There are airports in Napier and Gisborne providing domestic flights to Wellington and Auckland and the rest of New Zealand.

 

About You

You must have Vocational or General Registration (or be eligible for) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to be considered and to have:

  • Core Level 7, APLS, EMST (or equivalent) Credentialed or the ability to be credentialed in rural hospital medicine
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
