The Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting RNZAF Base Woodbourne in all workplace safety related matters.
Advising on the day-to-day implementation of the workplace safety component of the NZDF Safety Management System and Service specific safety requirements. The purpose is to maximise operational effectiveness whilst ensuring legislative compliance through advocating for best practice.
As the Safety Advisor, you will also be responsible for the following:
- Actively promoting a proactive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Assisting units to identify and evaluate hazards, and to control risks, including using appropriate information management systems.
- Recommending, developing, and implementing policy, strategies, and procedures necessary for health and safety legislative compliance across workplaces; and
- Conducting regular safety education programmes in liaison with the Directorate of Safety, Single Services and Portfolios in support of wider NZDF policy.

Along with at least 2 years' experience in a safety advisory or coordination role, you will bring up to date working knowledge of NZ H&S legislation and the confidence to bring about real tangible change to the people and place around you.
You will possess bring the following qualities:
- A thorough working knowledge of all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, including hazardous substances.
- Confident communication and presentation skills,
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate confidently and professionally with a wide range of people including senior leaders and commander.
- Passion for H&S work and a willingness to learn on the job.
You need to have a Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Low Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
- You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
