Mō te tūnga | About the role
This role is key to maintaining robust security services within Te Whare Toroa, the new facility that will house 5 Squadron. This facility will be the home of the Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft and associated systems that make up the Airborne Surveillance Response Force. The unit is responsible for carrying out air maritime operations both at home and abroad.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
- Administrative and coordination tasks related to security activities onsite.
- Monitoring and enabling access to the building/ facilities ensuring people have the correct clearance required.
- Enabling alarm systems and alarm access for onsite personnel
- Recognising and taking appropriate action on incidents, risks, breaches and suspicious behaviour.
- Working closely with the buildings Security Officer to ensure compliance.
- Liaising with the Ohakea Security Guard Force if incidences do occur onsite.
- Using your relationship management and communication skills to deal with staff, visitors and others, in a helpful and positive way.

Due to the security environment that the successful person will be working within, it is critical that you already hold a current security clearance of Secret or above to be considered for this role. Please indicate this within your application.
You will need the following to be considered for this role:
- Experience carrying out operational security within a secure or classified environment.
- An understanding of the Defence environment and NZ Protective Security Requirements would be welcomed.
- Working knowledge of electronic security systems (door control, alarm systems, CCTV).
- A range of administrative skills.
- Confident, effective communication and relationship management skills.
- Good IT skills, experienced with the MS Office Suite.
- Well organised, pro-active and able to effectively manage all issues that arise.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Higher Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
- You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
