Senior Financial Accountant (Accountant L2)

Mō te tūnga - About the role
Our team facilitates the accounting, collection and disbursement of over $115 billion of tax and $5 billion of social policy payments on behalf of the Crown, manages the valuations for $30 billion of Crown assets, and provides financial advice and support across IR and the broader sector in relation to tax and social policy.
Sitting within Non-Departmental Accounting, the Senior Financial Accountant will gain a detailed understanding of Inland Revenue's accounting processes, the Crown functions managed by Inland Revenue, and the Treasury's reporting requirements.
You'll be responsible for:
- providing financial accounting advice, services, and reporting across tax and social policy to ensure accurate Treasury reporting and to maximise the value of Crown assets
- assisting with data preparation for valuations, preparing Treasury and internal reporting, baseline update, and appropriation processes
- becoming a subject matter expert for our data, systems, and frameworks
- identifying and analysing trends and financial risks
- working with a range of customers including internal business owners, valuers, and auditors.

- Highly motivated team player who enjoys working across both the immediate team, the broader Finance Services team, and Inland Revenue
- Sound planning and organisation skills, including the ability to work to deadlines
- A minimum of five plus years accounting experience, including strong financial accounting experience and basic knowledge of general tax principles
- Chartered Accountant (or equivalent recognised by CAANZ) qualification
- Experience working in a large Government organisation preferred (but not essential)
- Strong technical aptitude demonstrated by an ability to learn and understand complex concepts quickly
- Experience in working with large accounting systems
