  • Ability to help lead the establishment and initial implementation of our disability learning and development programme
  • National Office - Preferably Wellington based
  • Senior Advisor fixed term until 30 June 2025

Due to key project requirements, we are looking for an experienced Senior Advisor to join our Disability team on a fixed term basis until end of June 2025. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has knowledge and experience in establishing disability related learning and development plans within large organisations (preferably government). As someone who can hit the ground running, you will have the unique opportunity to help establish and lead the implementation of our learning and development programme to strengthen disability knowledge and practice within Oranga Tamariki.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Disability team is a newly created team in the Enabling Communities & Investment Group. The team works to ensure the Oranga Tamariki Disability Strategy is implemented across the organisation to improve how we work with disabled people to uphold the rights of disabled tamariki, rangatahi and whānau. Using engagement, advice, advocacy, monitoring and reporting, the Disability team supports Oranga Tamariki to lift its disability capability and shift its policies, practices and services to improve outcomes for the disabled people we work with.

Our Disability advisors help ensure' the Strategy is implemented by business units across the organisation and are responsible for reporting on progress and impact. To be effective in the role, strong internal and external stakeholder relationships are critical.

As a member of the Voices group within Enabling Communities & Investment, our Disability advisors help ensure the perspectives of disabled tamariki, rangatahi and whānau are fed into the Integrated Voices programme so that their needs and experiences shape broader policy, practices, services, and resource allocation across the organisation.

As a key member of our team, this role would provide a unique opportunity to support delivery of our Disability Strategy through establishment and implementation of our organisational disability learning and development programme.

 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of different perspectives of disabilities including but not limited to social, medical, cultural/indigenous
  • Relevant knowledge of, and credibility with disability communities, organisations and networks
  • Ability to help help develop and implement disability training plans
  • Understanding of the machinery of government
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to lead and gain buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Experience/ working knowledge of the national disability support services landscape
  • Preferred but not essential: an understanding of Government policy and policy processes
  • Understanding and appreciation of cultural practices, in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Annual remuneration for the Senior Advisor position starts between $106,416 and $117,782 dependant on experience.
