Ko wai mātou – Who we are
Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ), is a Crown Agency responsible for international education. Our mission is to deliver enduring social, cultural, and economic benefits to Aotearoa, by taking New Zealand education experiences to the world.
We are a small agency, around 100 people, with approximately 30 staff based outside New Zealand. We work closely with a variety of other Government agencies, and in this role, you will gain exposure to all parts of the business. No two days will be the same!
Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position
The Senior Advisor Ministerials is a key role in the Government Relations team. You will be part of a close-knit team that is responsible for developing ideas and influencing policy settings across relevant government agencies, as well as supporting cross-government relationships for the benefit of New Zealand and the New Zealand international education sector. The Team also supports ENZ's Board of Directors.
You will lead the delivery of ENZ's ministerial servicing products ensuring ENZ meets its obligations, as well as providing advice and support for ENZ's Minister, its Board of Directors and Leadership Team. You will draft a wide variety of reports, including monthly reports to the Minister, briefings, responses for Official Information Act requests, and regular and ad hoc reports for ENZ's Minister and Board.

To be successful in this role, you will be a competent and confident Senior Advisor, or an Advisor who is chomping at the bit for that next step in your career. You will have sound judgement, a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and strong communication skills with willingness to take the initiative.
We are looking for someone with at least 3-5 years' experience in an advisory role. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills are essential. You will be highly adaptable, comfortable working with ambiguity and confident about providing advice and support to senior leaders. A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is highly desirable, and you will be experienced in (or have a strong desire for) working with international teams.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead ENZ's ministerial servicing workstream to ensure high-quality and timely delivery of products to the Minister
- Guide ENZ business units in providing accurate, high quality and timely responses to ministerials, parliamentary questions, Select Committee and Official Information Act requests
- Use your relationship management skills to build and support ENZ's capability in machinery-of-Government processes and requirements and engaging with the Minister's office(s).
