Te tīma -The team

The Security Group is dedicated to safeguarding everyone involved with New Zealand's Parliament-from MPs and staff to contractors, visitors, and customers. This includes providing security services to Electorate & Community Offices nationwide. This is a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation that has a pivotal role in ensuring New Zealand's Parliament is always open, accessible, efficient, and safe and secure.

Working collaboratively with the wider security and intelligence community, The Security Group ensure that an intelligence led approach to security is maintained. This includes the responsibility for intelligence gathering and analysis, working closely with Police and other Government Departments, and assessing levels of threat and risk.

Mō te tūnga - About the role

The Senior Security Advisor is a newly established role within the Security Group and will serve as a vital link with the security community, driving and informing training, advice, information sharing, and threat awareness.

Reporting to the Chief Security Officer, you will develop policies and processes that connect the Security Teams within the Security Group to enhance core functions and service delivery.

In addition, the appointee will:

  • assist the Chief Security Officer and Security Leadership Group with strategic planning and risk management
  • develop and complete monthly reporting, policies and procedures relating to any new legislation or directions, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement in security services and team capability
  • represent Security Group as required at stakeholder meetings.
  • prioritise and allocate resources to ensure Security Group outcomes are met
  • support the provision of high-quality security services and personal security advice to Members for personal security at home, in their communities and online
  • support security training and capability building within the Security Group and Electorate and Community Offices
  • oversee Security governance and assist the Health and Safety and Security Sub Committee.

Tō kete - What you will bring to the role

Your CV will ideally demonstrate your experience in the following:

  • Previous experience in an advisory, operational or project management preferrable in a security environment
  • Knowledge of physical security in a central government environment highly advantageous
  • Experience of writing policy, procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases
  • A good understanding of the protocols and processes required when working with protective security requirements, including highly classified material
  • A sound working knowledge of security best practice and legislation
  • Good understanding of the Protective Security Requirements (PSR)
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with a 'hands on', problem solving approach and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Exceptional customer service focus with the ability to manage expectations and deliver services that meet customer needs
  • Working collaboratively across a dynamic organisation with cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional communication, engagement, influencing and facilitation skills

Please note: To be considered for this position you must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident and able to obtain and maintain a NZ Government National Security clearance at SECRET level.

The appointing salary range for this role is $102,863 to $113,570 per annum. Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note, the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression).
