Job Description
While the core of the role is the preparation of financial statements and fiscal forecasts, it provides many opportunities for being involved in or leading work that goes beyond core financial accounting. You will be part of a dynamic, highly skilled team that provides financial accounting leadership to the business.
Key responsibilities
- Preparation and delivery of external reporting including government budgets and forecasts
- Provide financial accounting advice and support including financial accounting interpretation, compliance with accounting standards, statutory requirements, disclosures, financial policies and legislative compliance – particularly the Public Finance Act, Crown Entities Act, and Agency enabling legislation
- Preparation of variance explanations and commentary on financial statements and forecasts;
- Provide oversight of the month/year end process and ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed within agreed timetable.
- Support management with external audit and other stakeholder management requirements
- Will have completed a CAANZ or CPA qualification
- Strong financial accounting and numeracy skills, and advanced, working-level knowledge of financial accounting frameworks including NZ IFRS
- Knowledge of Government processes and an understanding of the public sector financial management system are not a pre-requisite but could be an advantage
- Highly effective planning and organisational skills, including project management and prioritisation in a complex work environment
