Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

The Crown Response Office (CRO) was established in September 2024 to drive the Government's response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care. It sits within the Public Service Commission. The creation of the Office within a central Government agency was a key recommendation by the Royal Commission's final report.

The Senior Governance & Ministerial Advisor role is part of a small team that delivers effective governance and corporate services that enable the efficient operation of the Crown Response Office.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing a high level of advice, support and leadership in relation to ministerial documents, operating within tight deadlines and a fast-paced environment.

Managing, processing and drafting responses to Official Information Act (OIA) requests, Privacy Act requests and Ombudsman investigations.

Drafting responses to ministerial and official correspondence and written Parliamentary Questions (PQs).

Drafting and coordinating aide memoires, weekly reporting, briefings and Cabinet papers (as required) for areas across the CRO, ensuring information is gathered from the appropriate subject matter experts.

Ensuring all documents are written in plain English and fit for purpose and that CRO meets applicable deadlines and quality and performance standards.

Providing specialist advice on the CRO's overall governance framework, processes and operations.

Maintaining oversight of and provide specialist advice on internal governance committees and other advisory bodies and committees (internal and external).

About you:

Alongside your relevant experience in a similar operational role, you will possess a unique ability to convey empathy and understanding in your writing, demonstrating genuine acknowledgement of the trauma experienced by mōrehu (survivors) of abuse in care and their whānau.

The Crown Response Office reports to the responsible Minister and our work programme is driven by cabinet decisions, often at short notice.  You will thrive in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment with the ability to quickly pivot when necessary.
