Aroturuki Tamariki, the Independent Children's Monitor, monitors the Oranga Tamariki system, providing insights that drive continuous improvement and improves outcomes for tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people), particularly tamariki Māori and children with disabilities.
Our monitors are the public face of Aroturuki Tamariki. They work in teams, engaging with the community to understand and record the experience of whānau, tamariki and rangatahi, family, professionals, caregivers and others who work with those involved in the care and protection and/or youth justice pathways. What we hear is analysed alongside data we gather. From this we develop insights that we share back with the communities we visit, and publish in our nationwide reports.
