Bring and apply your expertise and support the Applications Manager providing direction in support of a portfolio of critical electricity market applications and systems.

Transpower is Aotearoa New Zealand's National Grid operator. We keep the energy flowing by transporting electricity from where it is generated to cities, towns, and some major industrial users. We also manage the power system so that electricity is delivered whenever and wherever it is needed, 24/7.

About the team

The Application Services Group within our Information Services and Technology Division (IST) is responsible for managing Transpower's portfolio of applications and their cost-effective and seamless integration to meet business requirements through application acquisition or development, application life-cycle management, root cause analysis and problem resolution, as well as additions and enhancements.

About the opportunity

Application Services works under the guidance of our Digital Strategy team to deliver products in accordance with enterprise standards. The critically important IT systems built and operated by our Applications Services team are a key part of running Aotearoa New Zealand's national grid and electricity market in real time.

As Senior Operations Analyst you will provide expertise and support the Applications Manager in providing direction to the Applications Support team, along with supporting a portfolio of Market applications and systems.

This is a broad role working across technical performance analysis and enhancements, project delivery, transition to operations, and applying DevOps practices to influence design and automation.

Specifically, you will:

  • provide leadership and support to less experienced members of the team, ensuring incidents, requests, and problems are addressed within SLAs.
  • pursue continuous improvement and reduction of technical debt through robust problem analysis and automation of routine operational tasks and service requests.
  • co-ordinate incident response teams to resolve IT incidents.
  • co-ordinate and lead Disaster Recovery test plans and testing.
  • proactively work alongside Security, Infrastructure, and wider IST to ensure applications are maintained to the required security standards.
  • act as a Market System subject matter expert on capital projects.
  • conduct regular reporting as requested.

As a key member of the team, you will also work on critical projects that introduce new technologies and focus on system improvements and preventative maintenance - all the while learning the complexities of the Market system domain.

Who we're looking for

With great communication skills, you will have well developed strong technical skills and the ability to present technical concepts simply to a variety of audiences.

You'll enjoy working in cross-functional teams and know what it takes to achieve outcomes - whether it be the delivery of new capability or supporting existing functions.

It's important that you have a passion for process improvement, the ability to learn complex technical and business concepts quickly, and determination to build your knowledge and experience to become a technical expert in the Market system domain.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • 5+ years of relevant software development, system administration, and/or system operations experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing continuous integration, build management, packaging, deployment, and monitoring tools.
  • Working knowledge of automation technologies, configuration management, quality assurance and testing methods
  • Experience and skills in application and platform setup and configuration using automation and scripting.
  • Experience working with and configuring open-source tools and open-source software.

A bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience is desirable.

Please note: this role provides 24x7 on call support as required on a rostered basis.
