Mō mātou | About us

NZQA ensures that New Zealand qualifications are credible and robust both nationally and internationally. Our focus is on managing the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, administering the secondary school assessment system, and providing quality assurance for non-university education providers.

Sitting as part of our People and Capability group, our payroll team provide payroll expertise and services to both our Core Workforce (approx. 450 head-office staff) and our Specialist Workforce (approx. 7000 short-term fixed-term and contract staff). Our specialist workforce join NZQA for a short time each year to help us achieve our key deliverables.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The People and Capability team pride themselves on a strong commitment to excellence and taking a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to delivering great outcomes for our people. As a key member of our team, you'll work in partnership with the wider P&C team and key stakeholders from our various business units to ensure we offer seamless, pragmatic, reliable and efficient payroll operations.

Last year we implemented a new Human Capital Management (HCM) system. Our P&C team are continuing to work closely with the business to embed these systems and help our people to build their confidence and capability in navigating the HCM for the information and reporting they need. You will be a key component of this outreach process.

As a group, we want to be seen as true strategic partners to the business. To help us achieve this, you will join us with proven experience in building and managing positive stakeholder relationships. You'll be open to facilitating and supporting training sessions that will help our people better understand the HCM system and what their obligations/accountabilities are. You'll show a strong commitment to partnering with the business and taking their feedback on board to provide pragmatic, friendly, prompt and personalised service for our people.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience running end-to-end payroll as Senior Advisor, with a track record of implementing the Holiday's Act in day-to-day scenarios
  • Subject matter expertise in NZ payroll legislation and obligations and the ability to ensure that we have the processes, systems and policies in place that support us to adhere to all requirements relevant to us as a Crown Entity.
  • Dedication to providing excellent and reliable payroll services, engaging with the wider team and contributing in a positive way to our P&C partnership approach and organisational culture
  • Previous experience using a variety of payroll systems with a demonstrated ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Strong continuous improvement focused lens – demonstrated ability to take key stakeholder feedback on board and consider the way that we support, work and engage with the business to identify opportunities to improve our service

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you

We are a small, agile and dynamic team. We work across our P&C teams to support each other and offer our people the opportunity to develop their skills as HR professionals. We offer flexible work options and have a genuine commitment to wellbeing.

We have two positions available in our P&C payroll team at the moment. Although our first preference would be to fill both positions with Senior Advisors, we would consider taking someone with less technical payroll expertise and experience who strongly demonstrates the attitude and behaviours we need to complement our team.
