New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for preventing crime and enhancing community safety. Police is the government’s largest front-line response agency with around 15,000 staff in large and small communities all over New Zealand and in liaison and policing development roles overseas.
The purpose of the People Services function is to enable our people to deliver on organisational strategic objectives. The nature of Policing, and our large 24/7 workforce generates a complex employment environment with the People Services Group providing specialist services and advice to more than 14,000 employees of New Zealand Police, including over 2000 managers and leaders.
This role sits within the HR Business Projects Team that has been established to deliver on a number of business-related HR projects that range in complexity and will operate concurrently.
The Senior Policy Advisor (HR) role will sit underneath the HR Projects Manager and work alongside a Senior HR Business Analyst. As the Senior Policy Advisor you will be responsible for undertaking a review of our HR policies to ensure that they align with each other and are compliant with legislation and the Policing Act. It will also be part of your role to create a glossary of all terms and phrases. The Senior HR Business Analyst will work alongside you ensuring that all of our business processes and artifacts align with the policies you will be reviewing
Key Accountabilities:
- Analyse policy issues and develop advice
- Develop, or contribute to, project management plans and implement those plans
- Manage relationships with operational staff and represent their views in the development of policy.
- able to apply critical thinking to a range of complex and challenging issues
- comfortable leading policy work and representing Police interests on complex matters in collaboration with other agencies
- confident communicating with a wide range of people including other Police staff, stakeholders and senior leaders

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $110,425 and $117,014 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
