About the role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Librarian to join our team at the Ministry of Heath. In this role, you'll lead the planning and implementation of reference services, ensuring our staff have access to the information and resources they need to drive meaningful change in the health system. 

  • Analyse users' requests and design effective search strategies to fulfil specific information needs.
  • Collaborate with systematic review teams to deliver comprehensive search results.
  • Support the Ministry's horizon scanning function to keep staff informed of emerging trends and innovations.
  • Design and deliver engaging library instruction sessions to Ministry staff.
  • Evaluate, promote, and implement innovative electronic reference services.  
  • Develop and maintain subject specific web pages on the Ministry's intranet.

Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring  

  • Qualification in librarianship or equivalent library experience
  • Experience using online and print library research tools
  • Skilled in interpreting clients' queries through the reference interview process, enabling retrieval of the most relevant research results
  • Experience Using a Library Management System
  • Proven experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice

The Knowledge Services team is made up of information management and library specialists.  The team provide advice, practical assistance, and specialist information to kamahi. They monitor usage, target education initiatives for the Ministry, and offer access to evidence-based knowledge resources and document supply both on-site and online.
