Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join the Litigation team on a permanent basis. The litigation portfolio is varied and includes dispute resolution litigation under the Accident Compensation Act 2001, public, civil, commercial, criminal and coronial matters. The team is responsible for managing all litigation that ACC is a party to in courts, tribunals and inquiries. The team oversees the instruction and management of ACC litigation via a panel of external lawyers that represent ACC; team members are not required to appear in court themselves.

As a Senior Solicitor, you play an important role in managing a range of proceedings and working closely with external counsel, as well as providing sound and fit for purpose advice to internal stakeholders.

The base salary range for this role is $117,787 - $166,288 with appointment depending on skills and experience and internal relativities. ACC also offers 9% superannuation on top of base salary.

Mōu | About you

As a Senior Solicitor you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in law and a current New Zealand Law Society practicing certificate.
  • Proven litigation, public law, and legal advisory experience.
  • Knowledge of ACC, public sector legislation, and the wider system within which ACC operates preferred.'
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to develop knowledge of, Te Ao Māori, tikanga and Te Reo Māori.'
  • Strong experience and confidence engaging, influencing and advising at senior leadership levels as well as the skills and ability to work with diverse teams and people organisation wide.'
  • High levels of customer focus, initiative, and self-motivation.'
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.'
  • An awareness of issues related to people with disabilities and experience working in an environment requiring cultural and social awareness.'

  • Experience working with a range of technical experts with experience in highly regulated, insurance or health sectors and Crown Entities would be an advantage.'
  • The ability to robustly apply public sector disciplines as well as business and commercial nous.
