Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Social Worker, Mana Tamariki (Wraparound) Programme

Full Time, Permanent

Qualified and Registered Social Workers

The Mana Tamariki programme is based on a wraparound framework; a widely practiced international service delivery model. This framework provides practice principles for teams, organisations and system levels in order to guide work done, directly with young people and their families. Wraparound is an intensive and holistic philosophy of engaging with children that have complex needs, and their families so that they can achieve their goals whilst living at home and within their community. It is defined as an intensive, individualised care planning and management process.

The Mana Tamariki programme is for children with complex needs aged 6 to 11 years of age and their whānau within the Auckland area.  It will use the wraparound approach, an evidence-based child and family centred planning and management tool. It is designed to strengthen families and communities to address challenging behaviours by creating opportunities for intervening early when issues are beginning to affect the wellbeing of tamariki.  Overall, the programme will equip Mana Tamariki Social Workers with sufficient time and skills to work with children and their families in strengths-based planning and management, to improve wellbeing and reduce offending risk, and to better engage with existing community and statutory services, as well as building natural supports and skills. Social Workers will have smaller caseloads to enable them to do more intensive work with the tamariki and whānau.

 We offer you:

  • A challenging, fascinating and rewarding career opportunity in an exciting programme
  • On-going training and coaching in the wraparound framework model
  • On-going training in therapeutic skills such as motivational interviewing and DBT
  • Regular supervision and development
  • The opportunity to work with a small number of whanau in an intensive, supportive and strengths-based way
  •  Discounts on Southern Cross Health insurance
  •  Access to a government banking package with Westpac - special offers and rates

 You will have:

  • Proven engagement skills and rapport with tamariki
  • Excellent problem-solving skills - you will need to have a creative, informed approach
  • Understanding of children and families with complex needs, and ability to work across systems to bring about positive change
  • A willingness to try new approaches and be adaptable to change
  • Great written and verbal communication skills (you will need to write court reports).
  • Resilience and be able to work through challenging situations with composure
  • Full clean valid driver's licence
  • A social work qualification recognised by SWRB and will be eligible for full registration
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills with excellent report writing skills

This role will be based in Grey Lynn; however you will be working with whanau across the wider Auckland area.
