Job Description

Have you ever considered working in the UK but just haven't quite got there yet? Perhaps the cost of flights and visas held you back or the time just never felt right?
Our client is a Kiwi through and through who lived in Christchurch for many years before moving to the U.K 8 years ago to purchase, redevelop and run hotels. The company currently has three hotels, with a fourth is coming on board in December. The hotels are located in and around Newcastle, ranging in size and star-rating. Two of the hotel restaurants have 2 rosettes (equivalent to 3 hats in NZ) and are known to be the best restaurants in their respective areas.

We are looking for senior chefs who have a background in upmarket European dining, with a strong focus on technique and precision, experience in hatted restaurants, hotels and luxury lodges will be highly regarded. You'll be working with highly experienced chefs from throughout the UK and Europe and this is a chance to gain experience very rarely seen in New Zealand. Previous chefs in these venues have gone on to lead teams in award winning restaurants around the world!

The visa is valid for 2 years after which, if you and your employer agree, you can be sponsored for a further 2 years and thereafter be granted permanent residency (provided you meet the other eligibility criteria).

Here's some key info:

  • These are full time permanent roles ranging from Sous Chef to Senior Sous Chef
  • Your visa (including NHS health cover) will be paid for and is valid for 2 years with the option to extend
  • Your flights will be paid for
  • Costs covered by the employer (flights, visa etc) will need to be repaid if you resign within 2 years
  • Initial accommodation provided & assistance finding a permanent home
  • Couples are welcome - your partner can work in the hotels as well
  • Salaries range from approx $65,000 - $80,000 NZD
  • You need a valid passport

In order to be able to live and work in England under the Youth Mobility Visa the legal requirements are you must:

  • Be a NZ Citizen - this is not negotiable
  • Be aged between 18 - 35 at the time of application
  • Have £2530 (approx $5300 nzd) in your bank account at the time of application and these funds must have been in that same account for a minimum of 28 days prior to making your application.

You will also undergo a criminal background check, reference checks and may be required to pass a drug test. We may choose to conduct practical skills tests which will allow you to showcase your abilities as a chef. Visa's take no more than a few weeks to process so you theoretically could be on a plane to the UK next month! Imagine that, this time next month you could be living and working in the UK and you didn't even have to pay to get there!
