Are you an experienced OIA leader, keen to contribute towards conservation outcomes with a meaningful organisation? Join DOC Te Papa Atawhai as our Team Lead OIA Support.
We are looking for an experienced leader and OIA expert, motivated by the opportunity to lead and support a talented team in improving our service delivery across the Department.
As Team Lead OIA Support, you will play a key leadership role within the OIA Team as well as the wider Governance and Government Services Team, working closely with the Manager and Senior Leaders, providing strategic OIA advice as required. You will be responsible for leading a small team of two OIA Advisors, ensuring your team's mahi aligns with wider strategic objectives and that the team understand the role their work plays in this. You will also work collaboratively with your team to provide advice and trouble-shoot on matters that are sensitive or complex, while delivering quality OIA responses.
The team works at pace and is an extremely responsive, deadline driven environment, working collaboratively to draw on the strengths of all team members.
The position will be focused on:
- Leading and supporting the OIA Advisors and their workflow
- Leading context meetings on complex and highly contentious matters.
- Providing specialist advice and support during the lifecycle of an OIA request and the application of relevant legislation, internal policies and processes for proactive and reactive release of official information
- Working with the business to identify and evaluate risks associated with requests, and recommend preferred approaches to responses
- Establishing and fostering trusted relationships with your team, the wider team and unit, and both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

We are looking for a proactive and committed individual who is confident giving advice across the organisation on OIA and associated matters.
If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:
- At least 4+ years' experience in an OIA or legal environment
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing people
- Experience managing people, teams, or projects
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Experienced using a workflow management tool
- Strong organisation and delegation skills with proven prioritisation and willingness to flex and adapt as priorities change
- Effective, articulate, and persuasive communicator both written and oral
- Strong understanding of the machinery of government processes
- Experienced developing and presenting metrics to a broad audience
- High attention to detail, strong risk-radar and risk-mitigation
- A natural team-player with the ability to work as part of a leadership team as well as model and foster a thriving environment for a team
- Experience working in distributed team, fostering inclusive team culture
Mō te tīma | About the team
The OIA Team forms part of the wider Governance and Government Services Team. The OIA Team is responsible for leading the systems that support all of DOC with managing OIAs, proactive release and Ombudsman complaints and ensuring appropriate engagement around information releases across DOC and with external parties, including the Minister.
The OIA Team is an experienced team spread across multiple locations, and we keep the team spirit and connection alive through real-time, daily stand ups to ensure we're all working collectively to achieve great work.

The salary range for this position is $92,450.00 – $116,985.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
