 Job Title: Team Manager, Export Process

Role type: Fixed Term (6 Months)

Location: Wellington

Salary Band & Range, GSR C: $117,035 - $156,888 depending on skills and experience

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

Lead a team of technical professionals who are developing detailed welfare standards for the export of live animals from New Zealand. You will be managing the development and implementation of systems and procedures to ensure continuous improvement of the welfare conditions for animals during export, and overseeing the processing of animal welfare export certificates where appropriate.   

  • Lead a team of dedicated professionals to facilitate improved welfare outcomes for live animals during export.
  • Liaise with welfare professionals, industry and other interested stakeholders to develop guidelines and standards.
  • Work across the welfare system to achieve common goals and outcomes for animal welfare.

 

Mōu - About You

Animal export issues can be complex, you will need to exercise good judgement and have practical problem-solving skills when working within this regulatory environment.  

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • A veterinary qualification is preferred, though a qualification in a relevant subject will be considered
  • Experience in an animal welfare or animal health related field
  • Broad knowledge of the New Zealand regulatory environment, Animal Welfare Act 1999 and Animal Products Act
  • Experience leading a team with specialist knowledge
  • Experience in managing relationships and consultation with an assortment of internal and external stakeholders
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated with good organisational skills, able to set priorities and meet deadlines

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team  

The Export Process team sits in the Animal Health & Welfare Directorate of the Agriculture and Investment Services Branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries. The Exports Process team is currently made up of four permanent members and one fixed term role.  The team are responsible for developing and reviewing welfare guidelines and standards for live animals being exported. The team also manage approvals of Animal Welfare Export Certificates for livestock shipments and liaise with the full range of stakeholders.
