The Water Services Authority - Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Māori Advisory Group. Our responsibilities are to protect and promote drinking water safety and related public health outcomes - we regulate drinking water suppliers on behalf of the public. We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

 Our Technical Advisor is part of the Technical Advice Team, contributing technical advice on drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater across Taumata Arowai to support the delivery and achievement of strategic outcomes.

The Technical Advisor will

  • Provide technical analysis and advice into the development of regulatory instruments, guidance, procedures, training, and systems to support the regulatory framework for drinking water.
  • Use technical knowledge in the assessment of any applications and risk management plans produced by regulated parties
  • Keep up to date with and share technical knowledge with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Be supported professionally by senior and principal technical advisors

Ko koe tēnei | About you

We are looking for someone who has

  • 3+ years' experience working in a relevant technical environment, this may include time spent obtaining an advanced degree
  • Sound knowledge of water quality (microbiological and chemical), drinking water principles, and risk management
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) with the ability to reach a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound judgement, research, and analytical skills, particularly in assessing water quality and drinking water compliance data
  • Excellent working knowledge of excel (required) and Power BI or other analytical platforms (preferred)
