A unique opportunity to join MFATs Information Management Division as a Technical Support Services Engineer supporting the Ministry’s global presence!

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role  

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is looking for a Technical Support Services (TSS) Engineer in the Information Management Division (IMD).  This role provides a broad range of security and technical hardware & systems support to the Ministry’s off-shore sites through a programme of planned visits, remote support, postings to regional bases, and project delivery. Key accountabilities will include:

  • Technical expertise related to investigating, repairing, installing, testing, commissioning and maintaining ICT, secure communications hardware and systems
  • Planning and undertaking a program of site visits, maximising engagement and support to our customers
  • Project Support through SME input, delivery, and logistical support
  • Providing advice and auditing of Technical Security Standards

 

This role will initially be located in one of the Ministry’s offshore IMD bases. The successful applicant should be prepared to be posted to one of these locations for a three-year assignment.  At the conclusion of the posting they will return to Wellington with the expectation that they will take up further posting opportunities to IMD region bases during their career in the TSS team.

 

The appointment range for this role is $87,672 to midpoint $103,143 total remuneration including employer contribution to kiwisaver – negotiable depending on experience. The successful applicant will also receive an allowance in lieu of overtime.  Posting to one of the off-shore bases also attracts ECA allowances.

 

Please note: To undertake any Ministry offshore travel or posting it is a requirement that the staff member (and any accompanying family members) to complete and pass a medical clearance process, this includes having the required up to date vaccinations relative to the intended destination as required for the health clearance by the Ministry’s health provider.

To be successful in this role you need to be a highly motivated self-starter who can bring a wide technical knowledge base, and proven practical ICT and security system skills to a range of hardware and systems in a global environment.  You should have strong hardware-based skills across a range of technologies and systems - quickly understanding complex physical and technical issues is a must. You will be adept at thinking outside the box for solutions yet skilled at understanding and applying strict policies and procedures. Your communication skills will be excellent, and you will have a very good understanding of problem issue and incident management and resolution (e.g. ITIL).  In addition:

  • You should enjoy the challenge of working in culturally different locations
  • You must be highly customer focused, and available for frequent travel

 

Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work. If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too – as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.  As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, this is important to us and we offer training and support.
